On 29 October 1937, in one night, the Soviet government murdered over 140 Belarusian cultural and public figures, among them twenty-two poets and writers. Belarusians worldwide gather annually to remember the executed poets and give voice to their poetry.
The Community of Belarusians in Latvia invites you to attend a memorial service for the poets executed on the night of October 29-30, 1937, as part of the events dedicated to the Night of the Executed Poets. The prayer service will be held on October 30 at 6:00 PM in the chapel of the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows (Sānu kapela Rīgas Sāpju Dievmātes baznīcā, Pils ielā 5, Rīgā). The service will be conducted by Father Roman Sapuzhak, pastor of the Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ parish in Riga of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. Following the memorial service, there will be a reading of the poetry of the fallen poets.
